I recently bought my '05 PF SE 4x4 53k miles on it. I just finished my first real tank of gas that I could evaluate the mileage. Now, I know it's a heavy 4x4 and most of the driving was stop and go city road traffic. But I just got to the high 13's in mileage I drove it VERY foot friendly like an egg was under my foothardly any flooring it.
My Xterra SE OffRoad 4x4 gets upwards of 16 with the same driving 35k miles on it and should be similar in weight. So my question is: Since the ECU was "programmed" by the driving style of the previous owner, would resetting the ECU to learn my driving help? If so, what's the best way to do this? And would it de-program my keys or any other pitfalls I should be aware of?
Back to top. Pathfinder is about heavier So a solid 1mpg hit could be expected particularly around town where objects NOT in motion tend to stay NOT in motion. It will learn your driving over time anyway but shouldn't be a big deal if you want to try and reset. It won't change your keys or anything, but you may have to reprogram radio and such. I did wonder about the hwy driving, haven't been able to do a long ride on the slab yet. This could give me a reason to swap rides with the wife her X for my PF. She does a 90 mile round-trip drive each day.

This Cheat Sheet is to keep owners of the Nissan D40 abreast of the details concerning the fluttering noise as experienced whilst under moderate load and often after 3rd the 4th gear change. The attached sound file allows identification of the noise during acceleration.
The actual flutter noise can be heard at the 6 seconds and 11 seconds points. However, it seems Nissan now has a fix for this noise and is what Chip Tuning has suspected for a while. The noise is caused by the Variable Vane Turbo Control.
If you experience this transient noise contact your Nissan Dealer and demand a fix. A similar noise is when the clutch has load on it. To test if its the clutch mechanism, depress the clutch slightly when the noise is apparent and see if this terminates the noise.

Next, remove the small bolts that hold it in place. Once you have the MAF sensor off, you will see the front, back and the side of the sensor. You can gain access to it by simply sliding the seat all the way forward and removing the plastic cover from the ECU. You can also remove the seat if you want, it makes access a little easier.
In any case it will have one or the other. Seat removed; ECU in place on the floor with cover. The cover has ONE screw holding it down. Remove that and the cover will pull off. To clear all stored codes and turn the check engine light off, turn the screw fully clockwise while it is in diagnostic mode. To keep the codes stored, simply turn the key off as the check engine light is flashing and the ECU will keep all stored codes and the check engine light will remain on.
For V6: 1. Using a small screwdriver or tool, move it to the diagnostics position. One time, pause, then 2 times, three times, pause Mode 3 is the most commonly used mode and will yield the ECU trouble codes you need to figure out what's going on with your engine.
After it blinks both LED's 3 times move the toggle switch back to the on position. After about five seconds it will start to output out the diagnostic codes as with the 4-cylinder ECU. Meaning: One red flash and two green flashes means code Warm the engine to normal temperature.

Thanks, r0x. It doesn't need to be overnight. Disconnecting the battery long enough for the radio to lose its presets is usually sufficient to reset the PCM, too. Why do you want to reset the PCM to "factory defaults"? Short-term and long-term fuel trim settings get re-learned as soon as you start driving again, and they're constantly adjusted anyway. I thought that perhaps the ECM somehow got into a weird state and that resetting would force it to relearn, among other things, the idle control valve operation and clear the problem. As it turned out this did not work This is probably what's triggering the error code. The moderator on NissanHelp. I haven't been able to get a hold of the repair technician to follow up on that. Another possibility is that the idle control valve really is bad, which would really suck because the freakin' thing is on the back of the engine facing the firewall.
When I unplug my battery it resets my radio presets instantly. I know my pathfinder i would have to keep the battery unplugged for another minutes for it to reset the ecu. My xterra takes a very long time. Long enough to where i just use my code reader to reset it. Before you do anything to the IACV yourself, you should take it back to the mechanic who did the work. It is unlikely a mere coincidence that this error code appeared immediately after having repairs done.

I watched as he adjusted the signal going to the IACV and the corresponding changes in the idle speed. He then asked me to go out and buy a bottle of NOS-brand octane booster and add it to a tank of premium gas.
This morning they re-verified the timing, cleaned out the throttle body, "ghetto blasted" the IACV-AAC see previous post for an explanationand adjusted the neutral idle speed to about RPM. He didn't want to go any lower because the truck idles at RPM in gear.

I love the Pathfinder but with the transmission problems, radiator problems and fuel not registering, I am not happy or pleased with my purchase. Dealership performed diagnostic on vehicle and stated that BCM needed to be replaced.
Part purchased and after putting it on Nissan told me that's not what was wrong. No refund for part and told that part was only needed to reset vehicle computer. New part taken off and old put back on.Efile collin county
Wasted money on part and no resolution, as they now say I need transmission and radiator. My Nissan Pathfinder has all the very same issues. They proceed to tell me that they can't service my transmission due to cross-contamination of the radiator and transmission. When I asked what needs to be done to fix the problem and can I get a quote done. And if that doesn't solve it. As I am studying these side-show characters. I notice that they have the price written down on a piece of paper instead of a printed quote.
Obviously, so Nissan wouldn't be held accountable to the quote. Meaning that they can change the price at any given time. As of last Sunday evening my pathfinder started acting stranger. It shut down of me. It has power, it just wouldn't turn over. When I replaced it.
My vehicle started right up. Yet, the the same fuse kept blowing as soon as you started the vehicle. They couldn't figure out what was going on even with all the information I gave them.
They had to call some special technician to come out and try and find the issue. Still haven't heard what the issue is. Now knowing that Nissan has had this issue since until now with these very same problems with theses vehicles. They sold us lemons and they knew it! Yes, I got that very same paperwork in the mail from Nissan requesting that I extend my warranty.
That's just a trick that Nissan is playing to still not take blame for what they have done to myself and many many others in the same situation. I can't even trade my vehicle in since it would put me upside down in payments.
My vehicle was my only source of transportation to get back and forth from work and for traveling to visit my family. Thanks Nissan for leaving me without a vehicle and no help to get another one!!!
